Dear friends,
The world needs Rotary now, perhaps more than ever.
The vision of “Service above Self” is one which motivates Rotarians around the globe to strive to create communities that are connected, supportive, healthy, and peaceful.
We seek to empower communities where the worth of each person is respected and their lives valued. Rotary International’s Seven Areas of Focus are avenues through which our work is accomplished: promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, saving mothers and children, supporting education, growing local economies, and protecting the environment.
These last two years have been challenging ones for all of us, including for this club. We have seen the world change in fundamental ways, becoming more partisan and divided, less peaceful, confronted in extreme ways by health and environmental crises. We have struggled with the isolation and anxieties of the pandemic, having to find new ways to engage one another. And yet, through it all, we’ve been inspired by the Rotary vision of “Service above Self.” Our club has endured in working in our local community, within our District, and internationally to improve and save lives. More than endured, we have accomplished much. However, there’s more work to do. This year I want us to find creative and imaginative ways to fulfill the Rotary vision. Jennifer Jones, Rotary International President for 2022-23, has set as her theme, “Imagine Rotary.” I invite each of us to do just that: imagine what we can accomplish together as the Rotary Club of Albuquerque. Strengthened by our fellowship and relationships, we can find new ways to imagine “Service above Self.” Mark Goodman RCA President, 2022 - 2023 |
